I have voluntarily evacuated myself

Fri Nov 13, 2009, 12:46 PM
I had to evacuate my apartment last night and drive up to my parent's house because of the major coastal storm that is hammering the Atlantic coast. I live on the barrier island of Wildwood, NJ and we experienced ridiculous flooding. I live on the western part near the back bay (where the worst flooding ocurred). I didn't realize it was going to be so severe. We had some bad flooding last month when three nor'easters came through, but nothing like this. I stayed too long. I had my car parked on the highest spot I could find and the water at high tide still came half-way up the tires. I knew if I didn't move it before the next high tide (at 4 AM) that I was going to lose my car. I was freaking out; I didn't know if the water would recede far enough for me to get my car out of there.

I finally packed my bags, put my sneakers and socks in a plastic bag with a towel, rolled my pants up past my knees, and waded out to my car. I had to drive on the sidewalk where the shallower water was because the street was too deep; water would've gotten inside and possibly into the engine. I called the police to find out about the conditions of the roads and bridges (there was one way off the island, the others were flooded out). I got out of there and said a very grateful prayer.

I do sort of wish I had been able to stay just to see how bad the flooding got (my apartment is raised up so there's very little danger of the water getting in). The 4AM high tide was going to be the nastiest one, combined with lots of rain and 40-50 knot NE winds (yay!). I'm glad I got out of there when I did.

I just finished Confessor and I was all holy crap this has been the best series I have ever read or will read. Thousands of pages of material read in the span of four months, my new record. I was having a heart attack when Kahlan said, "I love you." before Richard could do what he had to.

Ah, so was the ending satisfactory for you? I did like how he brought things around full circle with the Boxes of Orden. I had totally forgotten about them until the last three books.

:D I was EXTREMELY pleased with the ending, but I wish it wasn't the end you know? I was reading the last chapter and I was all, "Yay, happy ending!" and then it's like, "Oh the ENDING." :( I've been reading this series for soo long now that it's like there is a... void where the anticipation for the rest of the story and where it would go.

I felt bad about Ann, happy that Jagang got what he deserved, and that everything worked out with Richard and Kahlan, Jennsen and Tom, and Cara and Benjimen(sp?).

I had forgotten about Ann's death. I was sort of sad when Johnrock died as well.

There is a short story prequel entitled "Debt of Bones" that details Zedd fighting Panis and Darken Rahl and setting up the boundaries originally. But after that, finis.

Zapp Brannigan: How many men did we lose?
Kiff: All of them, sir.
Zapp: Well, at least they won't have to mourn each other.

Yeah I felt bad about Johnrock too, and I was surprised that Bruce joined Richard when given the choice.

I'm glad that he finally brought the Mud People and one of the dragons back. I was unexplainably happy when I found out Scarlet was alive. (this is what I complained about a month ago.)

No problem. Winter's here and all the green things are gone so it's a nice reminder.
